Investigations are continuing into an unexplained death of a woman at Mount Gambier.
Police were called to a home on Pick Ave just after 1pm on Wednesday after a person was seen collapsed at a property and Major Crime Investigators continued their investigation on Thursday.
Upon arrival, a toxic smell halted police from entering the home and the Metropolitan Fire Service attended to investigate the hazardous smells.
Police confirmed officers entered once the property was safe and found the body of a woman inside.
Officers searched rubbish bins around the unit, but police are yet to confirm the cause of the woman’s death.
Neighbours have described the woman as a “really beautiful person” who loved her family and her cats.
“She loved her family and her friends with a passion,” one local said.
She added her death was a “loss for us”.
Locals told The Advertiser the woman lived on her own.
Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch and Forensic Response officers attended the scene last night to assist Mount Gambier police.
The investigators will return to the scene this morning and police continue to conduct further investigations to determine the cause of death.
