A one-month-old girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a horrifying afternoon plunge in their pram on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

It is understood the child was being pushed in a pram by her two-year-old sibling when she fell, suffering serious injuries.

People in the area said the family were locals but did not comment on the incident itself.

The Advertiser understands the child is no longer in a critical condition, but SA Health declined to release any information.

Family of the child also declined to provide any further information.

The incident occurred at Mt Compass, 60km south of Adelaide, just before 3pm on Wednesday.

Multiple paramedics, including a group of specialist emergency MedStar doctors, and CFS officers raced to the country town following frantic triple-zero calls.

Authorities believe it was a tragic accident with no suspicious circumstances.

Despite several schools and playgrounds located in the area it is unclear exactly how the child was injured and where the incident precisely occurred.

An SA Ambulance spokeswoman said: “A very small child was involved in a fall.”

She said the baby was flown to the WCH.

An SA Health spokeswoman had no immediate condition update.
