One of SA’s most senior Hells Angels – facing serious drug charges – has appealed for bail because he is bleeding from bowel, a court has heard.

One of the state’s top alleged Hells Angels is bleeding from the bowel, may have untreatable cancer, and is not receiving appropriate medical care in custody, a court has heard – over fears he may try to escape.
Police prosecution on Thursday alleged Scott Michael Kristian Smith – recently arrested as part of a Serious and Organised Crime Branch investigation in the northern suburbs – is one of the highest ranking members of the outlaw motorcycle gang.
Prosecutors told Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday that Mr Smith, 38, was supplying methamphetamine from his Munno Para West “safe house” to alleged Hells Angels initiate Bradley Horlor, 28.
Jon Lister, for both men, told Chief Magistrate Judge Mary-Louise Hribal Mr Smith was “very concerned” about how his health was being managed in custody, because he was “passing large amounts of blood through his bowel”.
“He is not receiving any attention, or the appropriate attention for that condition,” Mr Lister said.
The court heard following his arrest Mr Smith was rushed to hospital, and a recent colonoscopy appointment had been cancelled over concerns of a “potential security breach”.
Mr Lister said Mr Smith was told by a doctor the “worst-case scenario” for his symptoms was “bowel cancer” that could have spread and was “untreatable”.
Mr Smith, of Munno Para West, has yet to enter a plea to two counts of trafficking in a commercial quantity, four counts of a large commercial quantity and two counts of basic trafficking in a controlled drug.
Mr Horlor, of Munno Para, is also yet to enter a plea to more than 20 counts of trafficking in a controlled drug and two counts of using or possessing a prohibited weapon.
The court heard Mr Horlor would allegedly receive various quantities of meth from Mr Smith, and then allegedly went on to deal the drugs on behalf of the Hells Angels gang.
Prosecutors alleged this took place over the span of seven months.
The court heard undercover operatives had been involved in the investigation into the drug syndicate, and the prosecution were waiting for their affidavit evidence to be submitted.
Mr Lister said Mr Horlor had a young daughter with his pregnant partner – who was due to give birth to another child – and was “most anxious” to return home.
The court heard Mr Horlor was in the process of constructing a food trailer business at the time of his arrest and was the breadwinner for this family
Judge Hribal requested a report from Prison Health to support the evidence Mr Lister submitted on behalf of Mr Smith, and remanded him in custody until his next appearance in two weeks.
Her Honour refused Mr Horlor bail, and remanded him in custody until September.
