A local couple has captured the wild moment a brown snake devoured a red belly black snake while walking their dog. See the incredible footage. Warning: Not for the faint-hearted!

A South Australian couple has stumbled upon a “crazy fight to the death”, capturing the moment a brown snake devours a red belly black snake in an Adelaide park.

Min Cook and Sarah Williams were walking their dog Daf at the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park on January 4 when they came across the two venomous reptiles approximately 5km down the path.

In a post shared to Facebook Ms Cook said the brown snake seemed to have the head of the red belly black snake in its mouth before coiling around its opponents body.

“We could see it squeezing and almost pulsing, I don’t know if it was slowly eating it or just trying to kill it by constriction,” she wrote.

“I’ve never seen anything like this and as cool as it was, I kind of hope I never do again.”

The couple watched the battle for 10 minutes.

“The red belly put up a hell of a fight.”

“We didn’t walk back that way, but assuming the brown snake is now food coma’d out after digesting the biggest meal of its life.”

Ms Cook also praised Daf the dog for watching along quietly, but warned other dog owners to keep an eye on their pups.

“The slitherers are out in force!,” she said.

It comes as snake encounters are increasing in flood-affected river communities as the reptiles seek higher ground to escape rising water.
