A large albino python spotted soaking up the sun on a footpath in Port Adelaide struck fear into some local residents. But the owner says there’s no need to be afraid.

A large python has been spotted going for a “walk” off-leash along a Port Adelaide street.

Port Adelaide resident Priscilla Borrelli Sweeting posted an image of the huge snake enjoying the latest bout of hot weather to Facebook.

Ms Sweeting captioned the post: “Just another beautiful day at Port Adelaide Romeo’s Foodland”.

The post garnered polarising responses from residents with some concerned for their safety.

“Fk that,” Hannah Tschaban commented.

Anastasia Fox commented “omg if I saw that I would have ran away FASTER”, while Samantha Woods said “yuck”.

“God damn glad I’ve moved,” former Port Adelaide resident, Emma Brown commented while Janine Pring commented “I bet he scared a few people”.

Reptile wrangler Rolly Burrell said he wouldn’t want to be walking past the snake with a Chihuahua.

“The snake might have a bulge in its belly,” he said.

An employee of nearby Petsland commented on the post explaining they were the owners of the albino Darwin carpet python.

“That’s our snake and he was not alone,” Petsland employee Joanna Jubz Ryder commented.

“He is definitely not a risk to any humans.”

Mr Burrell said it would be good for the python to get some sun.

“I wouldn’t take it out for too long if it’s albino – it would get sunburn,” he said.

The employee admitted “people can sometimes get concerned” but the python was “very sweet and super gentle”.

“His usual movement speed is maybe 2 metres in 10 mins. Very lazy.

“If you ever see him out with me and he makes you uncomfortable just yell out ‘I don’t like snakes’ and I will immediately pick him up and move as far away from you as possible.

“We respect personal boundaries.”
