Investigations by police and fire investigators into an Alice Springs unit fire that claimed a woman’s life, “suggest the fire was non-suspicious”.
The fire was reported 10.30pm last Thursday night – the day before Good Friday – with a 51-year-old woman’s body tragically found inside once the blaze was extinguished.
“A report is being is being prepared for the coroner,” Police said on Monday.
Watch Commander Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Dunne previously appealed for anyone who has any information to get in contact with police.
Of particular interest is dashcam footage from the area on the night of April 17.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dunne said the fire had fully engulfed the unit by the time emergency services arrived.
Nearby neighbours said they were out at the time of the fire, and one who was home said they only realised the severity of the situation when they saw emergency service vehicles still in the street late Thursday night.
They said they did not smell smoke, but stated “it was not uncommon” for there to be “commotion” in the tiny street – which is about 75m long and contains multiple units.
NTP2500040244 should be quoted when contacting police in relation to the fire.
