In Julia Morris’ own words, the popular comedian has “upgraded” with her new co-host on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
Wildlife warrior Robert Irwin will stand alongside Morris for the 2024 season of the reality show, taking over from TV vet Chris Brown.
“Of course I am joking but it is an upgrade definitely,” Morris laughed ahead of the big announcement at Channel 10s annual programming launch in Sydney.
Irwin, who turns 20 in December, appeared as a guest on the show back in 2016 with mum, Teri, and sister, Bindi.
“I was knee-high to a grasshopper and had the bowl cut,” Irwin recalled of his first stint on the show at the age of 12. “This just feels like it was meant to be. I loved so much getting to do that show. I remember just being so in awe, getting on that set, seeing the massive crew, the incredible energy that particularly Julia brought to that shoot. Since the, I became a massive fan of the show and watch it every season so to be able to have this opportunity is wonderful.”
Like his mum and sister, Irwin has dedicated his life to sharing the message of wildlife conservation as he follows in his late father, Steve Irwin’s footsteps.
“Above all, getting to actually be on this new chapter with Julia is going to be an unforgettable experience … it is pretty massive,” he said. “There has been so many rumours flying here, there and everywhere, and so to finally say that I can be a part of this show in some capacity is so wonderful. It is actually a dream come true for me. I never thought something like this would be a reality. I just cannot wait to take this on, it is my first time getting to sink my teeth into something like this.”
In 2024, it will be the 10th season of the show with Morris on board since the first episode.
“I am really looking forward to having that full reset with Robert,” Morris said. “I am beside myself with joy. What about us breaking ground globally with a turning 56-year-old woman and a turning 20-year-old man?”
Speculation has been rife as to who will replace former TV vet Brown since he announced his departure last year.
“Honestly, I auditioned with the best in the business,” Morris said.
“It could have been anyone’s job, hand on heart. To rise above that standard, Robert came in for his audition he was mesmeric he was so funny. He was just ready to step in. The magic will just continue to unfold as the onion of our great partnership starts to unravel – it is going to be the best of times.”
Elsewhere in Ten’s programming launch, the network announced Gold Logie winner Grant Denyer will host a revamped Deal or No Deal game show.
The show previously ran on rival Channel 7 from 2003 to 2013, with Andrew O’Keefe as host and sees contestants trying to beat The Banker to win a huge cash prize.
Amazing Race Australia host Beau Ryan will also join Top Gear Australia on Ten alongside Survivor’s Jonathan LaPaglia and Blair ‘Moog’ Joscelyne.
“I’m super excited to be part of such an iconic franchise and can’t wait to bring it back to Australia,” Ryan said. “So, fasten your seatbelts, because this is going to be one hell of a ride.”
