Ipswich junior rugby league’s best and fairest players revealed across three competitions

Who were the best and and fairest players from three Ipswich junior rugby league competitions played over the weekend? Revealed here.

Players across several junior rugby league teams have shown some great performances in round eight.

Here we include the Ipswich Rugby League under 17 division 1, under 17 development and under 15 competitions.

The Queensland Times has compiled a list of the Best and Fairest players from Friday night’s footy action.

Let’s see who they are

Hooker: Cooper Read (Norths U17 division 1)

Starting the game in a different position at hooker, Read set his team up in great field position with his speed and game awareness finding space around the ruck.

When the young-gun switched back to his usual centre position in the second half, he continued to pose a threat to the Redbank defence until he unfortunately suffered a shoulder dislocation attempting a tackle late in the game.

Read endured a long wait on a very cold night to be treated by ambulance officers but his courage was unbelievable as he suffered the pain in silence without complaint.

Fortunately his shoulder went back in place with the help of the QLD Ambulance and the magic of the whistle.

Halfback: Lachlan Allwood (Swifts U17 development)

Allwood guided his team all over the field. With his kicking game he was instrumental and steered the Swifts to their win on Friday, setting the platform as one of the most experienced players on the field and a player who is always looked up to.

Brock Shearman, Kurtis Smith and Dylan Marschke (Lowood Stags development):

After Fassifern got off to a good start leading by eight at halftime, strong second-half performances by Shearman at lock, Smith in the second row and Marschke at prop saw the Stags come away 16-8 winners.

These three boys put in extra effort in the second stanza to help get a win in freezing conditions.

Toby Wilkinson from the Swifts.

Wilkinson comes from a strong Ipswich football family. He sets the platform coming out of trouble. His strong carries and tough defence always keeps his team in the hunt every week.

Wing: Charlie Daly (Norths U15)

Daly was the man of the match in North’s 32-22 win over Fassifern on Friday night. He had some really great runs and Fassifern struggled to contain him. Coach John Ward had high praise for the “gun winger.”

Fullback: Ethan Court (Norths U17 division 1)

For the second week in a row, Ethan has proved his value at the back of North’s defence.

He has been tested by every attacking kick imaginable under some extreme conditions and comes up with the footy on every occasion.

In attack he is starting to find his place in the backline where he can utilise his speed and footwork.

His ability to adapt so quickly to an unfamiliar position comes from the attention to detail he puts in at regular training sessions as well as the extras he does every other day of the week.

Five eighth: RJ Nagas (Norths U15)

When Nagas had ball in hand he constantly set his backs up which allowed him to also split the Fassifern defence apart.

Prop: Braydon Reid (Norths U15)

Reid had a point to prove as he had last week off. He did not disappoint at all, scoring a try after laying the early work in the set by punching through the defensive line constantly.

Centre: Tyree Iota (Norths U15)

Tyree Iota is one to watch. He is just starting to find his feet in the centres and is capable of some hard-hitting shots when he jambs in on defence.

Ryan Carr from the Swifts.

Swifts captain Ryan Carr led from the front through his tough carries. He tightened up up the Swifts defence in the middle and plays wherever he is asked to and never questions the process.

He is unbelievably tough with a great future.

Wing: Rael Sloane (West End U17 development)

In a gallant effort by the Dogs to come from behind to win 18-8 against Norths, Sloane was a standout. He defended the edge successfully all night and his positioning was impressive.

Second rower: Jeremiah Vunipola (Springfield U15)

Springfield went down to a solid Brothers team, but dug deep with eight players out. Vunipola played with a niggly injury but was solid on defence.

Riddell Matuato, Lusi Avauilli, Franky Hunt and Phoenix Jackson (Brothers U15 Blue)

Riddell Matuato played a great defensive game after returning from a dislocated knee. Lusi Avauilli and Franky Hunt played very strong games in the middle, crossing the line for outstanding tries. The best on the field was wing Phoenix Jackson who was great under the highball and superb on defence out wide.

Centre: Uili Lemalu (Springfield U15)

The second rower had to play centre with his team down on troops. Defensively he was great and made plenty of post-contact metres when running the ball.

Ephraim Tuua (West End U17 development)

Tuaa worked overtime throughout the match with enormous defence in the middle. He ran several big carries and picked up a cracking try when charging down a kick.

Prop: Jordan Manteit (West End U17 development)

Manteit was the unsung hero. He got through a ton of work and proved a handful with every carry.

Prop: Xzavier Timoteo (Springfield U15)

Captain and player of the match Xzavier Timoteo led from the front scoring a double and putting on some big hits in defense. Coach Chris Kitto has high praise for Xzavier, saying “This kid is turning into a fine young player with great leadership skills.”

Manutulila at halfback and Ramsamy at five eighth worked well together to steer their team to a 54-0 win over Goodna. They directed the team across all aspects of the game, leading with great sportsmanship.

Brothers U17 development white:

It was a tough test for Brothers with no substitutions and injuries leaving them with nine players during periods of the game. Man of the match Jaydiz Hirawani and Ryan Shepherd stood up to the challenge and were well supported with strong performances by Cassius Ah-Tah, Decklyn Biddle and Caleb Thomas.
