Another week of fantastic Ipswich sporting performances are in the books.
So let’s see who stoodout:
Rugby League:
James Frazer—Double Trouble (Ipswich State High School)
Six. Six defenders Frazer left stuck in their tracks when scoring his team’s first four-pointer in round two of the Langer Trophy.
He sure knows how to play this young five-eighth.
Not only is he a try-scoring threat but he is a handful to tackle. It isn’t often you see a No.6 make the post-contact metres that Frazer does.
It seems Frazer is the match to Ipswich’s fire. Two weeks in a row he has been the ignition that has gotten his team to show how far they can take their Langer Trophy campaign.
Tre Tofu — Catch me if you can (Ipswich State High School)
Tofu had no trouble slicing-and-dicing his way through Mabel Park SHS’s defence in Tuesday night’s Langer Trophy clash.
With his jittery footwork and deceiving step, he makes a mockery of his opposion—hence the name.
He cannot be contained when given room to run.
Josiah Pahulu — Mr. Go-forward (Ipswich State High School)
Jeez this kid runs it hard. He gets those legs pumping into contact and does damage up the middle.
Indeed Pahulu is a real asset to Ipswich’s Langer Trophy team.
With the way their season is going, they are looking like real contenders for the Trophy. Pahulu has worked hard in both games so far, and is a rock for Ipswich when they need go-forward.
Gabriel Satrick —Step city (Ipswich State High School)
Satrick’s superb stepping had the crowd in awe throughout Ipswich’s 46-4 massacre over Mabel Park SHS.
Satrick is another puzzle piece of this electric Ipswich lineup that can take it all the way.
He is hard to bring down to say the least. His game is electrifying and showed exactly what he is made of when scoring the try of the game on Tuesday.
Cooper Cracknell (Ipswich State High School)
Cracknell is a shining light in a struggling Ipswich SHS Walters Cup team.
They haven’t quite found their rhythm yet but they are still a very talented side. He loves physicality. You can tell.
Running right over defenders is his specialty, and was rewarded with his aggressive ball-carrying with a try on Tuesday’s Walters Cup clash.
He will be an absolute weapon in the following years when he steps up to the Langer level.
Rugby Union:
Larry Siala (St Edmund’s College)
Siala scored Eddies’ only try when coming up against a Lauries’ team going for back-to-back AIC First XV premierships on Saturday.
He kept coming at them. Although they tackled him he would not stop working. It was his effort. his toil. And his fight.
He peeled off a rolling maul and was rewarded for his effort all afternoon. He was Eddies’ best.
Moe Koroi, Hassan Sheriff and Kadin Pritchard (St Peters Springfield)
The boys from Springfield put on a clinic in their last game in the St Peters colours.
Against an Iona team stacked with talent, but starved of success in this AIC First XV rugby season, these three piled on more pain to add to their underwhelming season.
38-7. They didn’t leave anything in the tank. They left it all out there and had their best game of the year yet.
They stuck to their guns how they did all season. Pritchard was sharp and deadly at the back, making his case for the fullback of the season.
While Koroi and Sheriff carved up in the forward pack and made sure Iona knew they were not welcome at St Peters in their final farewell.
Football:
Beth Moran (Western Pride Women)
Moran was the best on ground for the Western Pride Women’s team on Wednesday. She was outstanding and kept her team in the game in crucial moments.
When everyone else was glued to their TV with the State of Origin, the Western Pride Women team travelled north to take on the league leaders Peninsula Power.
It was cold but the on field action was hot.
End-to-end footy saw both teams have their chances. Meg McElligott and Abbey Lloyd had their chances but it was Moran in the goal that stole the show.
She kept a clean sheet, seeing the scores out at 0-0 in a deadlock for the ages.
