A Toowoomba woman who brutally attacked her 81-year-old great-uncle has been sentenced for the domestic violence crime.
Rebecca-Lee Hill, 38, was arrested after the protracted assault in April, and charged with multiple counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
She appeared before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, June 30, and pleaded guilty to the charges, as well as going armed to cause fear, wilful damage, and two charges of stealing.
The court was told before the assault began, Hill yelled at the man to get her a glass of water, however when he brought it to her, she called him a dog and a c--t before smashing the glass against a wall.
Hill then jumped on the man and pushed his face into a mattress before digging her fingers into his mouth and eyes.
The court was told Hill punched him in the head and repeatedly bit his arms, and when he tried to flee his home, she threw a fridge which narrowly missed the man.
She then used a metal bar to smash a number of windows.
While in custody, the court was told she tried to coerce the man into dropping the charges and told him to tell police he made the incident up.
Acting magistrate Simone Bain told Hill she was incredibly lucky to still have the support of her great-uncle, who had attended court for her sentencing.
Ms Bain told Hill, who suffered from meth addiction, that the assault was serious, especially given she was on parole at the time for the assault of a police officer.
She said the steps Hill had taken to address the underlying causes of her drug addiction were promising.
Hill was sentenced to an 18-month jail term, and the 88 days she served in custody were declared as time served.
She will be eligible to apply for parole on September 3.
