A young woman is in a serious condition after a near drowning on a Gold Coast beach this afternoon.

A YOUNG woman is recovering in hospital after almost drowning at a Gold Coast beach this afternoon.

Members of the public and surf lifesavers pulled the 20-year-old woman from the surf at Coolangatta beach at about 2.40pm.

Multiple paramedic crews attended, performing CPR on the woman who had lost consciousness.

She was transported to Tweed Heads Hospital in a serious condition, but was later updated to serious, but stable.

The close call has prompted reminders from surf lifesavers for swimmers to swim between the flags, especially during the hot conditions forecast this week.
