POLICE are investigating two vehicles of interest after a man was brutally stabbed at an apartment in Brisbane’s south overnight.

Neighbours reported hearing yelling and doors slam before a 42-year-old Mount Gravatt man was stabbed in Lani Street, Wishart last night.

He was dropped at a Coopers Plains hospital, believed to be the QEII Jubilee Hospital, about 10.30pm suffering serious stab wounds but died at about midnight despite the efforts of doctors to save him.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson this afternoon confirmed police had towed two vehicles of interest, a red Mitsubishi Mirage and black Nissan Tiida, which were parked outside the property last night.

Inspector Thompson said the victim was taken to hospital in the red Mitsubishi by someone who was known to him.

He said both cars frequented the street of the crime scene over the past two weeks but were ‘active’ last night from 9pm-2am.

Police are calling for anyone who saw the vehicles travelling on Lani Street, Tryon Street, Logan Road and Kessels Road to come forward.

He confirmed police believe the alleged attacker and 42-year-old victim knew each other and police had a few suspects but could not go into any detail.

He would not comment on if the murder weapon had been found.

“We don’t believe it is a random incident but between people who are known to each other. So we are very comfortable in saying that there are no further threats to members of the public,” Inspector Thompson said.

It comes as neighbours have told of hearing yelling and doors slam before the fatal stabbing.

Neighbour Leanne Beecher, who lives opposite the unit where the alleged stabbing took place, said she heard “loud voices” and “doors slamming” last night about 10pm.

She said the unit was notorious for loud disputes and “people coming and going”.

Police divers and SES personnel were called in to search the property and motorists were stopped in the street as police investigated today.

The dive squad arrived about noon and walked to the back of an apartment complex on Lani street, Wishart, where a crime scene was established this morning.

A team of about 12 SES personnel also joined the search this afternoon, including combing a neighbour’s front garden and searching bins.
