Wild weather ahead of cold conditions for Brisbane and Southeast Queensland

Southeast Queensland temperatures are set to plummet following the heavy rain that has blasted the region.

Weather To Watch

Heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible thunderstorms have impacted southeast Queensland this morning ahead of a week-long cold snap.

A rainband swept across Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Tuesday morning, with totals in excess of 15mm over a two-hour period.

Widespread rainfall was recorded across the Darling Downs, with 18mm at Warwick, 16mm at Gatton and 14mm at Toowoomba overnight, with Ipswich (16mm) and Forest Lake (14mm) also impacted as the rain headed towards the coast.

The rain is expected to clear by this afternoon and will be followed by strong west to south-westerly winds of about 30-45km/h.

The westerly winds will bring cooler temperatures until Friday, with tops of about 22C expected, but a Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said with the wet and windy conditions it would fell only 15C for most of Tuesday.

The southeast Queensland cold snap comes as eastern NSW is told to brace for a possible ‘weather bomb’ throughout this week, as an approaching storm rapidly intensifies.
