Proserpine Mill continued to feel the effects of a recent wet weather event in a second week of below budget figures for Wilmar Sugar.
Cane Supply Manager Tony Marino reported an increase on the previous week’s figures, with about 75,3000 tonnes of cane crushed for the week ending September 11 – up from 24,300 in week 10 of the 2021 season.
Commercial Cane Sugar, CCS, recovered from 14.37 in week 10 to 14.79 – just above budget.
The highest CCS sample was 16.68 from a rake of fourth ratoon Q208 in the Kelsey Creek Productivity District.
Mr Marino’s message for the week was a reminder to “use your train brain” and always give way to cane trains during harvest time.
With school holidays starting on Friday, September 17, Mr Marino said it was especially important for parents, carers and teachers to remind children about the dangers of playing on or around the cane rail network.
At the end of week 11, the mill had crushed 751,578 tonnes of cane for the season, with an average bin weight of 9.58 tonnes and an average CCS of 14.32.
Week 10 report: Sugar cane yield suffers after wet weather event
Wet weather impeded production at Proserpine’s sugar mill with a well below budget 24,300 tonnes of cane crushed according to Wilmar Sugar’s week 10 report.
Cane Supply Manager Tony Marino said the wet weather event, last Monday and Tuesday, also caused Commercial Cane Sugar, CCS, for the week to drop to 14.37 – about a quarter of a unit below budget.
The highest CCS sample was 16.47 from a rake of plant Q183 in the Kelsey Creek Productivity District.
The mill’s crew was able to take advantage of the wet weather stop by undertaking major factory maintenance including the completion of boiler repairs.
