A home salon turned thriving business, Jayde Loree Hair Studio, has been crowned Whitsundays and Bowen’s best hairdressing salon of 2023.

With a lifelong passion for hairdressing, Jayde Loree Rogers started her hairdressing career as soon as she could, at the young age of 14 and 9 months old, moving from Bowen to Cairns to complete her apprenticeship.

“I was working at the Hairhouse Warehouse salon in Cairns for a few years while I was qualifying,” Mrs Rogers said.

Qualified at 17, Mrs Rogers has “lived and breathed hairdressing” for the last 18 years, moving to salons across Queensland, Melbourne and South Australia.

“I worked in a few different hairdressers in Mackay and Walkerston, as well as taking a short stint of a year in both Melbourne and South Australia,” she said.

“This is actually my second business, I ran Hair Benders in Mackay for about four years, which I sold in 2016 (now known as Universal Hair Studio) after giving birth to my first child.”

Now a mother of four — with two girls and two boys —, Mrs Rogers started her home business while she was pregnant with her second child.

“I moved back to Bowen around four years ago, and within six months started the salon in my garage.”

Opening the business during the pandemic, Mrs Rogers was able to nurture a 1 on 1 experience with her clientele, building up her clientele until restrictions eased and has since expanded her capacity to six seats.

Now located in the Woolworths Shopping complex at Bowen’s Centre Point Plaza, Mrs Rogers opened the salon in February last year, and has since brought on a team of two apprentices, one of which is also qualified beautician.

“We are a hairdressing and beauty salon we also do cosmetic injectables and massages,” she said.

Now with more than 100 clients, and ‘many’ walk ins and seasonal clients, Mrs Rogers said that the salon to client relationship is like a revolving door of friends.

“Some of my clients have now become my close friends and family,” she said.

“While our six salon chairs are almost always full, I don't believe in saying that our books are full.

We try our best to accommodate our clients, and allow space for walk ins.”

Dominating the poll with 33% while runner up Ashley Eyles from Kazza’s Barber Shop Whitsunday Plaza got 19%, Mrs Rogers said what set her salon apart from the rest was the team’s dedication to ensuring they produced “flawless” results and staying up to date with the latest trends.

“We work extremely hard; clientele come first,” she said.

“I love everything about the job, especially my client interactions where they come to me needing some tlc and walk our feeling amazing.”

Ms Roger said that none of this would be possible without her family, staff and “of course” the clients.

“I couldn't do it without my husband, he is my rock,” she said.

“And my staff are so amazing. They go beyond for me, and we are a really close team.”

On the lookout for a senior stylist, Mrs Rogers hopes to continuously expand her close-knit team.
