Whitsunday council to decide fate of motel plans, showground upgrades
From a 32-room hotel complex to multimillion-dollar showground renovations, the Whitsunday Council faces plenty of decisions at its September meeting. DETAILS.
From development applications to showground upgrades, a range of local issues will be up for discussion when councillors gather next week.
Whitsunday Regional Council will meet in Bowen on September 24 for the monthly meeting.
Colonial Palms Motor Inn Expansion
A development application for new three-storey complex housing 32 accommodation units at 2 Hermitage Drive, Airlie Beach will be considered at the next meeting.
The project, which includes a commercial kitchen, laundry, rooftop terrace, and carparking and is linked to Colonial Palms Motor Inn.
The application has been amended since the consultation period to address privacy, noise, and building height concerns.
The council will discuss conditions that could be put in place to manage amenity and noise impacts such as requiring the rooftop terrace to close between 9pm and 6am.
Collinsville Showgrounds Precinct Masterplan
Council will review and decide whether to adopt the Collinsville Showgrounds Precinct Masterplan which proposes ways to improve the functionality, flexibility, and operational efficiency of the showgrounds.
The masterplan includes five new activity precincts for youth, sports, events, visitor, and parkland, new shaded pedestrian and cycle paths, and RV Park enhancements including shaded sites and RV amenities.
The delivery of the masterplan would be staged as future external grant funding became available, with initial estimates of $20,380,517 needed.
Proserpine Junior Sporting Complex Lease Renewal
Council will decide whether to renew Proserpine Junior Sporting Complex’s lease for another 10 years.
The lot located at 333 Crystalbrook Road, Proserpine has been leased to the complex for more than 40 years at a peppercorn rate.
While the lease would not provide council with any revenue it would allow the organisation to invest money back into the club and benefit their members who are also responsible for all maintenance and repairs.
