From a new sports precinct to car-parking policy, a range of local issues will be up for discussion when councillors gather this week.

Whitsunday Regional Council will meet in Proserpine on Wednesday, December 10 to consider a range of issues at their monthly council meeting.

Whitsunday Sports Precinct Master Plan

Council will consider whether to endorse the Whitsunday Sports Precinct Master Plan.

The Whitsunday Regional Sports Precinct is a 95ha site adjoining Shute Harbour and Brandy Creek roads.

The area would include six sub precincts, a walking and cycle network including a scenic loop and a new intersection at Shute Harbour and Brandy Creek roads, while extra land would be reserved for a future P–12 school and a council depot investigation area.

Stage 1 would focus on sports with the greatest demand for new facilities and is planned for delivery by the end of 2027.

Council has received $15 million in federal funding and additional money is being sourced from other agencies for the project.

Car-parking policy

Council will discuss a parking policy that outlines a process for assessing alternate parking demand arrangements for developments that either cannot cater for assessed parking demand on site or it isn’t in the community interest for parking demand to be met on site.

A range of local issues, including a new parking policy, will be up for discussion when Whitsunday Regional Council meets in Proserpine on December 10.

The policy would be discretionary, providing a pathway to deal with the particular circumstances of a development.

Car-parking area plans would be progressively developed as specific issues arise and costs are assessed.

Development application for fitness centre, health care services, and food and drink outlet

Dynamic Health and Fitness in Bowen is seeking council’s approval to change the use type of their property.

The original plans included a gymnasium and caretaker’s accommodation but since then the caretaker’s accommodation at the rear of the property has been converted into a food and drink outlet, with the front rooms being used as a chiropractor clinic.
