Severe storm warning for Proserpine and Hamilton Island

Slow moving severe storms have developed over the coastal parts of Queensland, prompting forecasters to issue a severe thunderstorm warning.
This comes as motorists travelling on the Bruce Highway are being urged drive with caution after Yalboroo was lashed with rain causing water to impact the northbound lane of the roadway.
Mackay Regional Council has been called to place water over road sign at the impacted area, which is about 500m south of Cathy O’Connell River Rd.
A humid and unstable air mass has caused isolated severe thunderstorms to develop Sunday afternoon and the Bureau of Meteorology has warnings for the Central Coast and Whitsundays.
Severe thunderstorms could cause heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning areas over the next several hours at Proserpine, Hamilton Island, Bundaberg, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Cleveland.
Emergency services advise people to park cars undercover away from trees, close doors and windows, and keep asthma medications close by as storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
Everyone is also urged to charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out, put pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost, and do not drive unless you have to.
