Traffic crashes, speeding, and opportunistic thefts could all be prevented
Bowen police are asking the community to learn from these examples so everyone can enjoy a safer environment.

High speeding teen
Police issued a 19-year-old Bowen woman a $1245 fine and six month license suspension after she was caught speeding on the Bruce Highway about 2pm on May 29.
Acting Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Ryan Gregory said the woman was driving at 145km/h in a 100km/h zone.
It is the second high end speeding offence committed on the Bruce Highway near Bowen in as many weeks, with a 21-year-old Bowen man caught doing 123km/h in an 80km/h zone on May 18, and issued the same penalties.
Sgt Gregory said such offences “fly in the face of” police efforts to reduce the road toll.
Roundabout crash
Police attended a two-vehicle crash at the Herbert and Livingstone St intersection on May 25 after one driver failed to give-way at a roundabout.
Sgt Gregory said one passenger received minor injuries in the incident, but no one had been charged as the matter was still under investigation.
He urged the public to slow down and obey road rules as such incidents could be “catastrophic” at higher speeds or with pedestrians close by.
Opportunistic thefts
Police are once again reminding the community to lock their cars whenever they are unattended, as reports of thefts remained a common occurrence.
Sgt Gregory said with several reports each week, and likely more cases that went unreported, there was “too much complacency” around a crime that “should be really easy to prevent”.
Sgt Gregory urged the community be responsible for their property and not to “leave the door open for (thieves) to steal from you”.
