Bowen police are hopeful an arrest this week will bring an end to a recent spate of home burglaries in the Golf Links Road and Soldiers Road areas.

A 22-year-old Bowen woman was arrested on Monday, May 31, after members of the public reported a person attempting to force a window open on a house about 9am.

Police found the woman a short time later, allegedly carrying an implement intended for use in breaking and entering.

The woman was charged with four property offences relating to multiple burglaries, allegedly committed over the past few months.

Further investigations resulted in charges for alleged drugs misuse offences.

Acting officer in charge Sergeant Ryan Gregory said the woman allegedly stole “general homewares” that were not of significant value.

He thanked community members for alerting police quickly enough that they could respond while the alleged offender was still in the area.

“It demonstrates the value of the community working with the police in identifying offenders and preventing these sorts of crimes,” Sgt Gregory said.

“These people were looking out for their neighbours and were diligent enough to call triple-0 and report suspicious behaviour,” he said.

The woman will appear in court in June.
