Police are investigating after counterfeit money was used at a business in the Whitsundays.

Police are investigating after a fake $50 note was found at a business in the Whitsundays.

Sergeant Stephen Smith in a media release revealed the counterfeit currency was found in Bowen on November 27.

He said a Powell St business was tallying the days takings when staff spotted a suspicious $50 note.

“Inspections of the note revealed a size and visual discrepancy,” Sergeant Smith said.

Police have since confirmed the note was a counterfeit, he said.

Residents and businesses are urged to show care when handling notes and report any suspicious circumstances as soon as possible.
