Joel Mark Wayne’s fatal hit and run case adjourned in Bowen court
The man accused of a fatal hit-and-run death of a cyclist will enter pleas to other offences when he next appears in court, while more serious charges proceed.

The man accused of a fatal hit and run in Bowen along with a string of other offences will enter pleas in relation to the summary matters when he next appears in court.
Joel Mark Wayne was accused of being behind the wheel and not rendering assistance when the fatal incident occurred on July 25.
Police allege Mr Wayne struck a 69-year-old cyclist on Bootooloo Rd, leaving him on the side of the road without providing any help.
A passing driver eventually found the victim, who died from his injuries.
Police have also charged Mr Wayne with drug driving, driving uninsured, driving while disqualified, not following directions of a police officer, assault causing bodily harm, armed robbery, and possessing dangerous drugs among other offences.
Lawyer Phil Rennick from Rennick Lawyers appeared via phone in Bowen Magistrates Court where it was heard Mr Wayne intended to enter pleas of guilty in relation to the summary matters on the next occasion.
All other matters including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death would proceed to the higher court.
Acting Magistrate Nigel Rees adjourned the case for a lengthy plea on September 11.
