Investigations into a Whitsunday crash that killed a 48-year-old Preston man are ongoing, with police considering laying charges as part of the probe.

Shannon Dryburgh, a father of a teenage girl, died at the scene of the crash on Conway Road about 6pm on June 30.

Mackay Forensic Crash Unit’s Officer in Charge Sergeant Michael Hollett confirmed police took a blood sample from Mr Dryburgh’s partner, 41-year-old Shontelle Fulton, after she allegedly crashed the car near the Shute Harbour Road.

Sgt Hollett said police were still waiting for results after the sample was sent to Brisbane for testing, with this process usually taking anywhere from four to eight weeks.

Police were “still trying to get information from various sources” but charges were “not too far away”, Sgt Hollett said.

Meanwhile, further details have emerged about the victim of the crash after a long-time friend came forward to express her grief.

Deborah Green of Caboolture said she grew to love Mr Dryburgh “like a brother” after meeting him at a Brisbane pub 25 years ago.

Ms Green revealed Mr Dryburgh had previously been married and was the father to a 13-year-old girl at the time of his death.

He had lived at Bribie Island and in Brisbane prior to moving to the Whitsundays, and had struggled with drug and alcohol issues for many years, spending “a lot” of time on probation.

Ms Green however found Mr Dryburgh to be “a beautiful guy” and said her own five children had come to think of him as part of the family.

“He was so nice,” Ms Green said.

“We clicked from the moment we met and we looked after each other over a lot of years.

“My kids are all so sad they’ve lost their ‘uncle’ Shannon.”

She believed Mr Dryburgh’s remains had been cremated and that his mother, father, younger brother, former wife and daughter had gathered for a small ceremony in Brisbane.

When contacted on Wednesday, Ms Fulton said she was “barely holding it together” and “still trying to cope with the fact [her] fiancee died in a car crash”, but declined to shed any light on the events leading up to the crash.

“The last thing I need to do is talk to people who don’t really give a shit”, she said.
