A Victorian man has been bravely rescued after he fell head first while fishing at a popular Whitsundays’ rock wall.

Emergency services were called to the incident near VMR Cannonvale at 4.15pm Sunday after reports a man was unresponsive with serious injuries.

Whitsunday Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Nathan Blain said members of the man’s family immediately jumped in the water after he fell to “hold his head above water” before emergency services could arrive.

It is understood his daughter was the one who jumped in the water to rescue him and that the man was bleeding profusely.

Sen Sergeant Blain said a member of the public who was in a small boat near the area also helped emergency services bring the injured man safe to shore.

Sen Sergeant commended the fast response of the family and members of the public right after the incident, which “could have quite easily had a more tragic outcome”.
