A Whitsundays woman in her 50s had a lucky escape after her car caught on fire on the corner of a busy road.
Emergency services were called to the incident at the corner of Shute Harbour Rd and Brandy Creek Rd just before 11am.
Airlie Beach Fire and Rescue station manager Rees May said the woman had been aware there was an issue with the vehicle and got out on time.
He confirmed that she had not been injured in the incident.
The vehicle was heavily burned down, as it reached all the way inside the vehicle and parts of the sheet metal were missing at the front.
Whitsunday Towing owner Shaun Nicholls said he had been driving past on Shute Harbour Rd with his partner when they saw smoke coming from a vehicle.
He said the lady in her 50s who was inside the vehicle said she had seen smoke coming from her car and that it had lost power, so she stopped and got out.
“She was OK, she knew smoke was coming from the vehicle before it caught fire,” Mr Nicholls said, adding that the lady had now gone back home.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
