The Superyacht Donation Hub is harnessing the power of the superyacht community to transport much needed supplies to isolated areas.

Coral Sea Marina is calling for people to get involved with the initiative that will see local Superyacht De Lisle III transport donated goods to Papua New Guinea.

Head of marketing and business development at Coral Sea Marina, Joscelyn O’Keefe, said by harnessing the reach of the superyacht network they could bridge the gap and make a real difference.

“The South Pacific is a region of incredible beauty and culture, but many communities face significant challenges due to their isolation,” she said.

“This initiative not only supports those in need but also fosters meaningful connections between the yachting industry and the communities they visit.”

The initiative was created following a steady increase of superyacht visitation over recent years not only to the Whitsundays region and Great Barrier Reef, but across the entire South Pacific.

The project leverages the superyacht communities extensive travel routes and cargo capacities to get supplies into remote and often difficult to reach areas.

This is the third year Coral Sea Marina has held a donation drive with supplies like linen, clothing, sporting goods, school stationery items, medical supplies and fishing equipment transported in 2023 to Vanuatu communities following a string of destructive cyclones and a partnership with Days for Girls International in 2024, providing menstrual care and education to girls and women in Fiji and Vanuatu along with other donated goods.

Captain of superyacht Sumo, Jack Sprouster, who was involved with the 2023 donation said the difference the initiative made was evident.

“Through the combined efforts of the Airlie Beach community and the crew of Sumo, essential items such as clothing, sporting goods and medical supplies were delivered to the villages, addressing immediate needs and helping to improve the overall wellbeing of the residents,” he said.

“The spirit of unity and compassion demonstrated by everyone involved has truly made a difference in the lives of the recipients.”

Coral Sea Marina encourage locals to make meaningful contributions to those in neighbouring South Pacific communities by donating what they can. They are collecting a range of quality used or new goods to be distributed, in particular, they say any donations of reading glasses, sunglasses, and fishing gear would be greatly appreciated.

Donations can be dropped into the Coral Sea Marina office above the Garden Bar Bistro with the donation hub set to close on 24 January ready for transportation.
