SEQ weather: Temperatures set to drop to below 18C for the first time since November

South East Queensland is set to be hit with a spate of its coldest days in six months with temperatures forecast to be “notably” cooler over coming days.

Flash flooding and torrential rain warnings in place for South East Queensland

Parts of South East Queensland will hit below 18C for the first time since November last year, with the cold weather set to stay with no real “warm up in sight”.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Harry Clark said now that the rain has eased a cool change was on its way.

It comes following days of torrential downpours across the southeast, including a 113mm burst in one hour at Burpengary in Moreton Bay on Sunday night.

“We do have a little bit of lingering cloud around today. But then really from tomorrow onwards, we can expect a dry and southwesterly change and sunny conditions returning,” Mr Clark said.

After Tuesday it should be less humid with sunny conditions. Mr Clark said after Wednesday the morning temperatures would drop.

“Once we get to Wednesday the minimums will drop into the mid teens in most locations around the southeast,” he said.

“Around 15C in Brisbane, in Ipswich we’ll be looking at minimums around 14 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday with definitely some cooler weather on the way.

“The notable part is - it’s going to be the first time we’ve been below 18 degrees since about November last year. That’ll definitely be notable.”

Mr Clark said it was a couple degrees below average for Brisbane. During the day Brisbane is expected to get to a high of 26C on Wednesday.

“There’s no real warm up in sight beyond it. The minimums in the teens will stay right through the weekend.

“And so it kind of looks like we’ve got that autumn pattern a bit more entrenched from Wednesday onwards.

“We will see maybe some possible showers return on Friday onwards just because the wind settles a bit more onshore but nothing heavy.

“For the rest of Queensland it should be a fairly clear and sunny week, with the exception of Far North which will see showers and thunderstorms up there.”
