Qld weather: Storms, heatwaves for parts of the state as southeast basks

Damaging winds and heavy rain could impact parts of Queensland today as the state is impacted by a 3500km line of thunderstorms whipping across eastern Australia.
The Bureau of Meteorology is warning of severe thunderstorms for expansive parts of western and central Queensland with damaging wind gusts possible.
There is also a chance of heavy rainfall west of Goondiwindi and in the Gulf Country.
Parts of the state’s north are also being gripped by extreme heatwave conditions, with 38C daytime maximums forecast for the Gulf Country.
It could get to 32C in Brisbane on Monday, with warm conditions expected to stick around before dropping slightly.
Sky News Weather meteorology Alison Osbourne said the “atmosphere was extremely unstable” with “particularly dangerous” storms possible for southwest Queensland.
“Warm tropical air has been dragging over south eastern Australia this week making it humid and unsettled,” she said.
In South East Queensland, maximums will remain in the low 30s until Thursday and Friday when the bureau said tops of 26C were expected as a cool, dry and gusty south-westerly airflow crosses two thirds of the state.
Temperatures will climb back to 32C by Sunday, however weekend outdoor activities may have to wrap up by afternoon as there is a high possibility of showers later in the day.

A trough combined with tropical moist air produced severe thunderstorms in western and southwestern parts of Queensland on Sunday night and another trough may be on the way.
The Peninsula district at the top of the state is battling a heatwave warning, with temperatures in the mid to high 30s only dropping to the mid 20s overnight through until at least the weekend.
