Flash flooding and strong winds could impact southern and southeast Queensland over the next few days as two major weather systems impact the state.
A burst of cool, south to south-easterly winds moving across the state is likely to see an increased chance of wet weather over the weekend.
Meanwhile, a slow high is moving south of Australia, driving onshore winds and showers. Strong wind warnings are current for coastal waters from the Torrest Strait to the NSW border.
Drenching rainfall is forecast for southern Queensland from Saturday, with Goondiwindi and St George a chance of seeing 40-50mm, with possible flash flooding.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Harry Clark said there was the chance of heavy rainfall and flash flooding in isolated areas.
“We’re expecting the peak of the rainfall to be Saturday through the southern interior like through the Goondiwindi and St George areas,” Mr Clark said.
“We couldn’t completely rule out the odd severe thunderstorm for the southern interior on Saturday, with a pocket of heavy rainfall and maybe flash flooding.”

Mr Clark said the rainfall would move into South East Queensland from Sunday, with totals of more than 50mm likely on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
“In South East Queensland, we’re not expecting the rainfall to be as heavy, generally 10-20mm for the most part, we could see the isolated fall over the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast hinterland up to 50mm,” he said.
“It is more just bad timing with the long weekend.”
