The Bureau of Meteorology has issued several flood warnings, as the state preps for more heavy rain.
BOM meteorologist Helen Reid said moisture was being drawn into a trough over Central Australia which is expected to cross into Queensland on Thursday.
“This will give rise to even more widespread rainfall and more thunderstorms with the expectation of heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts particularly through western, central and southern Queensland,” Ms Reid said.
“As the trough system continues to move east during the course of Thursday and Friday, we will see a gradually clearing trend from the southwest of the state however that shifts the focus of rainfall to he coastal and eastern districts by the time we get to Friday and the weekend.
“There are many flood warnings and flood watches through western and southern Queensland and with the expectation of significant rainfall in the coming days, these rivers are expected to rise again …”
Minor flood warnings were current on Wednesday afternoon for the Dawson River, Barcoo River, Moonie River, Wallam Creek, Paroo River at Eulo, Eyre Creek while a major flood warning was current for the lower Macintyre River and Weir River.
There’s also a flood warning for the Condamine River and Balonne Rivers and a flood watch for western, central and southern Queensland.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected persist through eastern and northern over the weekend and into the new week.
This should ease heatwave conditions in the far north as cloud cover increases but the humidity is expected to stay.
The weather system comes after Brisbane‘s highest November daily rain in data history was recorded on Tuesday at 121mm.
Rocky Point sugar mill, which recorded 128.8mm and Greenbank, which got 65.4mm, also had their highest rainfall for a November day, as did Forestdale.
Thunderstorms across the state today could be severe with potentially damaging wind, particularly in the western part of the state and possibly some of the southern interior.
