Brisbane roads flood

THE Centenary Highway in Brisbane’s west remains reduced to one lane inbound, nearly 10 hours after a burst sewerage main caused traffic chaos.

Urban Utilities tweeted just before 1pm that crews were still carrying out repairs and commuters were advised to seek a different route into this evening.

The incident, first reported about 4am, affects the motorway and Sinnamon Rd on-ramp at Jindalee.

200km-long band of rain dumps up to 260mm on southeast

The damaged sewer main is 1.7m underground and an Urban Utilities spokeswoman said crews would have to cut through road and concrete in order to repair the pipe.

The cause of the burst is being investigated.

Translink was diverting all route 460 bus services due to the highway closure.

Meanwhile, northbound lanes on Gympie Rd at the intersection of Beams Rd at Carseldine were earlier blocked by flash flooding, and there was also flooding southbound on the Bruce Highway on-ramp at Anzac Ave, Griffin.

There are also delays between Juliette St and Kessels Rd on the Pacific Mwy following two crashes at Greenslopes this morning.

Flash flooding caused traffic chaos across the city on Thursday and the situation is likely to repeat itself again today following more massive falls overnight.

Brisbane has received 92.6mm since 9am yesterday, while parts of the Sunshine Coast got more than 100mm in the same timeframe.
