Southeast Queensland has shivered through colder-than-usual weather for Spring, with minimum temperatures up to 5C lower than average in parts of the southeast this morning.
Bureau of Meteorology Meteorologist Peter Claassen said minimum temperatures in parts of the southeast were well below average, with Applethorp plummeting to a brisk 1.7C this morning.
“Their average for this time of year is about 6C,” he said.
“Yesterday was down to -4C in Applethorpe.

“For Brisbane itself it got down to 10.1C this morning, and the average there is about 13C.”
Mr Claasen said several locations across the southeast broke late season minimum temperature records this weekend.
“Yesterday we did see min overnight temp about 6-8C average below so it was quite a lot colder across the southeast,” he said.
On Sunday, Warwick recorded -2.1C, Applethorpe shot down to -3.8C, Gold Coast seaway dropped to 8C and Nambour recorded a low of 6.4C.
Brisbane temperatures will dip slightly below average to a low of 13C and a 24C high today, as Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Kimba Wong says things will return to normal by the end of the week.
“We’re looking at near or below maximum temperatures across the south,” Ms Wong said.
“It’s gradually warming up as we head into Thursday around most locations, particularly the southeast.”
Some light coastal showers are forecast tomorrow for the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions north of Brisbane, but it’s going to be a predominantly dry week.
The mercury will flirt with the 30C mark for the last weekend of the school holidays.
The beaches are calling once again, and the Sunshine Coast’s Wallis family will be sure to answer.
“We’ll be back there, definitely,” mother Lisa Wallis said.
“It’s a great place to wear them out.”
