A storm warning for a huge swath of inland Queensland has been cancelled, but not before producing wild conditions.
The warning had stretched from the Darling Down and Granite Belt in the state’s southeast to just south of Mount Isa, in the state’s northwest.
Weather bureau meteorologist Rosa Hoff said western townships were being impacted by a powerful cold front.
Windorah, Quilpie, Thargomindah and Cunnamulla were bracing for strong winds and rain.
“We also have a number of flood warnings current in western Queensland,” Ms Hoff said.
The storm warning was cancelled after 7pm but wild conditions remained.
A number of towns saw record-breaking rainfall totals, with over 100mm falling in some areas.
It follows another band of heavy rain that moved through the region at the weekend, breaking rainfall records in some towns.
Ballera in southwest Queensland saw its September rainfall record broken, having only broken its August rainfall record last month.
Meanwhile, a 102km/h wind gust was recorded at Thargomindah.
The Bureau of Meteorology said there was little to no chance of thunderstorms in Greater Brisbane tonight, but they were a possibility tomorrow evening.
A 39km/h wind gust was recorded at Brisbane Airport this evening.
It comes as the Bureau of Meteorology warned of a strong chance of a La Nina forming this summer, bringing potentially wet weather to Queensland.
