Brisbane punters may have to swap the high heels for gumboots at this year’s Melbourne Cup celebrations at Eagle Farm with rain expected all day long according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Bureau meteorologist Brooke Pagel says the South East and the Darling Downs can expect persistent rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.
“For today we are expecting ongoing rain, so a wet day ahead with 10 to 20mm rainfall totals for Brisbane, and the temperature hovering around the 25 degree mark for most of the day,” she said.
Showers and storms produced widespread totals of 30 to 50mm through central QLD over the past 24 hours to 9am this morning, isolated falls of 50 to 100mm âï¸

“There is a chance of thunderstorm early to late Tuesday afternoon in the South East region, but nothing too severe.
“Toowoomba and the Darling Downs could see severe thunderstorms, possibly resulting in wind gusts, hail and flash flooding.”
Ms Pagel said the Bureau is expecting the persistent rain to clear overnight.
Brisbane and Toowoomba recorded 9mm and 10mm of rainfall since 9am Monday, with the Darling Downs copping the majority of the rainfall, recording 36mm of rainfall.
