Brisbane City Council to close its sandbag stations at 8pm

Brisbane City Council will close its sandbag stations tonight after more than 400,000 were collected or filled from its five depots in the past week.

Brisbane City Council will close its sandbag stations at 8pm today.

Since Friday more than 400,000 sandbags have been collected or filled from its five depots and seven temporary sandbag facilities.

That was more than double the number of sandbags taken during the 2022 flood event.

Council’s four Resource Recovery Centres would also close at 8.45pm today.

Since Sunday more than 1550 tonnes of green waste as been dropped off for free.

Sandbags are still available in Ipswich at:

- Rosewood Council Depot, 155-165 Mill Street, Rosewood

- Raceview Council Depot, 182/250 Briggs Road, Raceview (6am - 6pm)

- Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve, corner Cedar Road and Moreton Avenue, Redbank Plains

- Henry Lawson Bicentennial Park, 533-569 Karrabin Rosewood Road, Walloon

- Evan Marginson Park, 6 Layard Street, Goodna

Sand and sandbags will be available at Briggs Road Depot until 11am tomorrow and at other locations through the morning of March 6, until supplies ran out.

Gold Coast and City of Moreton councils closed their sandbag stations at midday today.

DFO Jindalee, Readings Cinemas Jindalee and BCF Jindalee also announced they would closed from 5pm on Wednesday until further notice.

Ipswich City Council meanwhile announced all bin collections would stop tomorrow and on Friday.

Its resource recovery centres would also close on those days but were expected to reopen on Saturday depending on weather conditions.

The Ipswich Pound and Animal Management Centre would be closed until further notice.

Queens Park Environment Centre would be closed until March 11.

Nature reserves have been closed until further notice.

Ipswich libraries would reopen on March 10, while council-owned swim centres were closed until further notice.

The Ipswich Civic Centre, Ipswich Art Gallery, Studio 188, North Ipswich Reserve Corporate Centre, Fire Station 101 and Ipswich Visitor Information Centre would reopen on March 10, as would council-run community centres and sports grounds.

The citizenship ceremony on March 10 has been rescheduled to April 2.

The Riverview and Rosewood resource recovery centres would not reopen after normal closing time today, until further notice.

Extra vehicles are running to collect blue bags already out for collection as part of council’s on-demand kerbside service.
