Queenslander Thomas Hinterdorfer has been driving towards dangerous tornadoes which have wreaked havoc across Texas over the weekend.
More than a dozen of destructive tornadoes touched down in Western Texas, tearing off roofs and bringing down fences in local towns.
The Higgins Storm Chasing Chief Forecaster, who has been travelling with his partner Katey Houston, said the last two days were “pretty wild” as he witnessed six tornadoes.
“Some of these have been quite strong, and we’ve been close to some and a little bit further away from others,” he said.
“We’re seeing these localised, favourable environments for tornadoes and some strong tornadoes.
“We’ve had multiple bigger hails in the past few days on these storms.”
The experienced tornado chaser said the weather events in the States last longer as they take time to move across.
“Because we are in the middle of the country, these storm systems can last several days,” he said.
“Whereas in places like southeast Queensland, we get these big storms set ups, and they can be quite nasty, but there is a point in time where they do hit the coast, and they just can’t keep going.”
He said they were expecting “violent storms” on Monday and recommended anyone who are interested to join a storm chasing tour.
