A tropical low that dumped 300mm of rain on the state’s northwest overnight will spread to South East Queensland this weekend.
More than 100mm of rain is forecast for Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast from Friday through to Sunday.
The heaviest falls are expected on Saturday, with predictions of 25-50mm.
It comes after Century Mine northwest of Mt Isa recorded 300mm on Tuesday night.
“That tropical low in northwest Queensland will bring that widespread heavy rain up slowly towards the southeast in the coming days, so into Central Queensland on Wednesday and Thursday, then coming into South East Queensland on Friday and Saturday,” the Bureau of Meteorology’s Darren Narramore said.
Mr Narramore said there was potential for intense isolated falls and possible storm activity across the southeast on Saturday.
He said general showers were likely on Friday, with totals up to 20mm, while light rain would persist on Sunday.
Mr Narramore said the rain would offer some relief from the hot and sticky conditions of the past fortnight, with maximums in the mid to high 20s.
