More than 60mm of rain has been dumped in southeast Queensland overnight as the region prepares for an unseasonable drenching as two rain bands sweep the state.
Grandchester, southwest of Brisbane, recorded 64mm of rain in the past 24 hours as meteorologists warn of more significant falls today as twin systems bear down.
An upper trough over southern Queensland will extend a rain band over much of the state today while a second upper trough will amplify over southern Queensland from late Sunday, creating another rain band over eastern Queensland as it moves east during Monday and Tuesday.
The Gold and Sunshine Coasts are expected to cop up to another 35mm of rain today while Brisbane could see up to 25mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Brooke Pagel said two rain bands would sweep the state between Friday and Monday, creating heavy localised falls and “significant wind chill,” which could impact livestock.
By 8am Saturday morning, 54mm had already fallen at North Stradbroke Island, 62mm at Brassall while Eagle Farm in Brisbane had 23mm, Bowen Hills 22mm, Brisbane 20mm and Bracken Ridge 22mm.
On the Gold Coast, 30mm fell at Evandale, 29mm at Burleigh Waters, 33mm at Coolangatta, 27mm at Upper Springbrook and 32mm at Couran Cove.
On the Sunshine Coast, Buderim copped 26mm, Bli Bli 27mm, Eumundi 27mm, Maleny 30mm and Landsborough 32mm.
Further north, Moranbah recorded 56mm, Rockhampton 32mm, Emerald 29mm and up to 75mm near Cairns.
