Brittany Dugdale and Layla Wolfenden didn’t know each other at the beginning of the year, now, they’re running a horse rescue service and saving equine lives across Warwick and the Southern Downs.

The pair met five months ago and quickly bonded of their shared love of horses and their mutual dismay at seeing sick or neglected horses on Facebook

That’s how L & B Horse Rescue and Rehoming was created.

“It was so sad to see that some of these animals didn’t make it because no one could take them in, so we made the quick decision to jump into it, and it was probably the best decision we’ve ever made,” Ms Wolfenden said.

“We’re an entirely self-funded operation run out of my property at Rosenthal Heights, we had everything we needed at the property, we just needed to make a few adjustments, which led to L & B Rescue,” Mrs Dugdale said.

“We rescued our first horse, Tigger, after we were contacted by a woman who said she had a horse who was at trials and got a major knock to the eye which caused an eye ulcer.

“She offered him to me and we picked him up from Oakey, he was underweight and his eye was damaged, but since being here he’s gained a lot more weight and we recently got the all-clear from a vet that we don’t need to continue his eye treatment.”

And the pair have big plans to continue their efforts in rescuing horses.

“We’ve been offered eight horses, so we’re about to have a few more horses on the property,” Ms Wolfenden said.

“We get to involve our families as well which makes it so wholesome, it’s brought us even closer as friends.”

“It’s the best feeling in the world,” Mrs Dugdale said.
