Warwick’s historical gem O’Mahony’s Hotel has changed hands after considerable time on the market.
The beloved hotel went to auction in July, but with unsatisfactory offers the hotel was relisted on the market with an asking price of more $1m.
Warwick Daily News spoke with former hotel owner Joan Wallace in June, who after 22 long and dedicated years decided she and her family were finally ready to hang up their hats.
“I fell in love with the charm of the building and bought it with the intention of restoring it and I think I‘ve accomplished that as best I can,” Mrs Wallace said.
“I’d love to see someone take it on and continue to do more with it. I’m at retirement age now, so my plan is to just wind down slowly and see where life takes me.”
It gave Mrs Wallace great pleasure to meet the great-granddaughter of the original owner earlier this year, who had visited from Ireland.
“I’m very appreciative of the support I‘ve received from the community over the years and I’m grateful to have played a role in their lives,” Mrs Wallace said.
The 136-year-old beauty was sold for an impressive $1.45m last month by IThink Property’s Ben Walker to Brisbane-based investment company Nestegis Investments.
