Warwick gymnasts returned home after a spectacular performance at the Queensland Senior State Championships.
From smashing personal bests to finishing in the top 15 in the state, it was certainly a successful campaign from the Rose City girls.
The 2023 championships saw the highest number of gymnasts from Warwick compete in the last decade, with four girls competing and doing big things.
Head coach Lyndsay Morris said the girls had an amazing result and the months of training paid off.
“It was a bit relieving to get to the end of the season and smash it the way that they did after a long season of training and long hours,” Morris said.
“It’s one of those hard sports where you can do great one day and feel like you’ve never trained the next, so for everyone to come out with PBs at the end of the season made the girls see how much a positive mindset and hard work pays off.
“It’s a constant sport, having two weeks off a sport like this can be a bit of a setback, so much physical and mental energy goes into the sport and it can be demanding but they get so much out of it.”

Morgan O’Leary
Level: 8 Open
Age: 15
“This gymnast had a fantastic two days of competition coming away with PBs on all apparatuses,” Warwick Gymnastics president Bek Sims said.
“Morgan‘s most impressive routine for the weekend was her floor routine. Landing her awesome tumble runs and placing 12th in Queensland. Morgan’s overall placings (was) 18th overall on day one and 14th overall on day two. Well done Morgan on a great weekend.”
Aamilyn Johnson
Level: 7 Open
Age: 16
“Aamilyn was determined to do well this season and the determination, persistence and consistency in training has definitely paid off,” Sims said.
“Competing back-to-back seasons, only having competed in junior states in September of last year, Aamilyn has achieved an extraordinary feat.
“Scoring some incredible PBs over both days, Aamilyn showed beautiful artistry on floor, ranking eighth in Queensland and ninth on vault. Congratulations Aamilyn.”
Chloe Mapes
Level: level 7 under-15
Age: 14
“Chloe stepped up on day two and proved just how much gymnastics really is a mental game,” Sims said.
“Putting day one aside to smash out three new PBs on bars, floor and vault, with two standout performances on bars, hitting handstands and flying high in dismounts,” Sims said.
“Chloe has worked tremendously hard in training pushing through all the mental blocks and has shown that persistence is what it takes. Well done Chloe on a great competition.”
Lily Tuvukica
Level: level 7 under-13
Age: 12
“Lily had a great states experience at states as a senior. Sadly, Lily qualified last junior season but missed out due to an injury,” Sims said.
“Coming back to gymnastics after seven months off with an injury is never easy, then to jump straight into the senior season and qualify for state championships is outstanding.
“Lily shook the nerves off from day one to go out on day two with three PBs. Getting personal bests on floor, bars and beam as well as an overall PB. Congratulations Lily.”
