Warwick gets an early taste of summer with warm temperatures expected this weekend

After waking to more than a few subzero mornings of late, Rose City residents will head poolside later this week, with temperatures climbing across the Southern Downs as a hot spell is predicted to hit much of the state.

After months of frosty starts, Rose City residents will get a warm few days filled with sunshine with temperatures expected to reach the mid-20s at the weekend.

While there is still more than a month of winter left, BOM meteorologist Kimba Wong said it will soon feel more like spring, with the mercury set to tip 24 degrees on Sunday and Monday in Warwick.

“That’s due to trough from the west that’s bringing northerly winds, it will be bringing those warmer winds to the interior of the state,” Miss Wong said.

Warwick residents will still be reaching for an extra blanket at times, with a chilly -1 predicted for the first half of the weekend.

But temperatures are set to continue to rise as those warm winds made their way down from the north.

Miss Wong said warmer weather was also predicted for Stanthorpe, a stark difference to just a month ago when it was on the lookout for winter snowfalls.

“Although, Stanthorpe being a little cooler, we can expect those highs to sit around 22 degrees,” she said.

After Leslie Dam tipped over the 50 per cent mark earlier this month, Miss Wong said there was only a slight chance of imminent rain for the region.

“Warwick has skinny chance of rain over the next several days, but Stanthorpe had a slightly chance of a shower coming through tomorrow, and perhaps Tuesday and Wednesday next week,” Miss Wong said.

But those keen to see an early start to spring would have to wait a little longer, with Miss Wong saying it was expected temperatures would drop back to the low 20s by Tuesday next week.
