The digital technology phenomenon has inserted itself into the many facets of our daily lives and has played a vast role in a sustainable future.
Paper receipts have been hiding in plain sight since the Industrial Revolution and it seems their time could be coming to an end.
For Foodworks Texas, abolishing the time spent sifting through piles of paper receipts is set to make the lives of their accounts team that little bit easier.
Partnering with digital receipt platform Slyp, Foodworks Texas business owner Lisa Putzolu said the move to reduce paper receipts rolled out in October.
“We get lots of paper receipts through the store and decided (digital receipts) would help reduce the amount of paperwork in the office,” she said.
The store won’t be completely receipt free, with the plan for next year to see customers receive a digital and paper copy of their receipt.
Mrs Putzolu said customers still have the option of receiving a paper copy of their receipt, with the response from the community to the digital move a mixed one.
For customers wanting a digital copy of their receipt, they simply provide their mobile number at the checkout and will receive an SMS with a link to their receipt before exiting the store.
Mrs Putzolu said at this stage the initiative has only been implemented within the Foodworks and won’t affect Mitre 10 next door.
The family-owned business isn’t the first to make the move to digital, with department store giant Kmart announcing their move to digital receipts in December 2022.
Paper receipts are still available in Kmart’s around Australia, with the digital move currently limited to NAB customers.
