VICTORY LAP: Hard work wins gold for Warwick swimmers

THE Warwick Swimming Club is going from strength to strength with impressive wins across the board.

THE tides have turned at southern Queensland swim carnivals as the Warwick Swimming Club dominated relays, sprints and age championships.

Excellent leadership from senior members of the team is to thank for growing numbers of participation and representation this season, according to organiser Shane Reid.

Will Gilmore, Kyle Dumigan, Caitlin Skaines and Lily Osbourne kicked off a successful season after qualifying for the annual WP Kemp Memorial Sprint.

“They definitely lead by example,” Reid said.

“The junior swimmers look up to them in their results and in their participation.”

The swimmers teamed up to take home a major win, ending the night by beating the Gatton team at the Open Medley relay for the first time in many years.

“It’s a challenge to beat Gatton, and they were really keen to have a win there,” Reid said.

“They were extremely excited.”

Skaines also boasted an individual win at the Girls 50m sprint.

The wins kept coming at the 2020 Country Championships at Dalby where 30 Warwick swimmers were nominated to compete.

The team were awarded a total of 22 gold, 18 silver, and 10 bronze medals.

Skaines won 17 years and over girls age champion with seven gold medals and one silver, Gilmore won 16 years age champion with eight gold medals and Alyssa White won 13 years age champion with three gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

These competitors will receive their awards at the Darling Downs presentation dinner in March.

“It’s really good for the kids, it’s good encouragement to keep swimming,” Reid said.

More than anything, Reid says the clubs wants to maintain its positivity into the second half of the season.

“We want to encourage as many members as possible to come to our swim meets each week and represent us in comps,” he said.
