PROMISING young rower Will Hudson is proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the water, after claiming two gold medals in the gruelling sport.
The talented athlete travelled to Norway last month to compete in the Scandinavian Rowing Championships.
The Year 11 Brisbane Anglican Church Grammar School student was selected to compete in the prestigious event.
Will competed in four races and two different disciplines, a quad and a double scull, alongside other Year 11 and 12 students.
He said he was privileged to be chosen to join the team and compete at the championships. "I haven't done anything on this scale before and it was a great experience to go overseas and race against unknown competitors," he said.
The trip was not all business, with Will and the other competitors able to sightsee around London during the trip.
Not forgetting their roots, Will and a fellow team-mate raised the Australian flag at the championships and even belted out an unaccompanied version of Advance Australia Fair.
Rowing is dubbed by many as one of the toughest sports out there and Will said he had been tempted to hang up the oars sometimes.
"There were times when I thought I should just try something different but I spoke with my parents and decided to stick with it," he said. "And I haven't regretted that decision since."
Will's parents, Lynton and Louise, made the 32-hour flight to watch their son battle it out in the championships.
"We were very welcomed, even though we were competition and it was amazing to be there and be the Australian support contingent," Mrs Hudson said.
