Three Queenslanders in Aussie corner in 2019 World Cup

POLOCROSSE: Warwick player Cameron Shepherd is assistant coach of the Australia team to play in next year's Adina Polocrosse World Cup in Warwick.

Shepherd will assist head coach Arch Anderson from the Hunter Valley (NSW) in coaching the side for the April 22-28 World Cup next year.

The four women in the team are Queensland pair Beth Hafey and Lauren Sillitoe, New South Wales player Lucy Grills and experienced Western Australian defender Suzette Thomas.

Sillitoe is originally from Western Australia and played for Cunningham club when she moved east but is now part of Tansey club in the South Burnett. Hafey is also from the Tansey club.

Cunningham player Ryle Waugh has missed selection after suffering a knee injury in the Australia 3-0 series victory in July in Zambia.

After beating Queensland 40-18 in the final of the nationals, New South Wales has all four men in the team, Abbott Grills, Jim Grills, Will Weston and Lance Anderson.

Waugh and B.J. Thomas (Western Australia) were the two from the squad of 10 selected at the Barastoc Interstate Series this year to miss out on cup selection.

Pip Crook (WA) is Australian team manager and Toni Davidge (NSW) the assistant manager.

Morgan Park, Warwick, was the venue for the 2003 and 2007 World Cups which Australia won after being unbeaten. South Africa has won the past two cups.

Last year at Morgan Park, the South African men's team beat Australia 3-0 in a series while the Australian women won 3-0 against South Africa.

In July, the Australian men and women each won 3-0 in series against Zambia, the country which played South Africa in the 2015 cup grand final.
