GOLF: The amount of money raised in Warwick for Queensland Police Legacy should pass $75,000 at Wednesday's Police Legacy Day at the Warwick Golf Club.

The golf day was started 21 years ago and so far $71,917.65 has been raised.

Sergeant Shane Reid has been involved in 20 golf days and is now not playing to concentrate on the organisation of the day.

"Queensland Police Legacy is to support the spouse and children of officers killed in the line of duty or while employed as a police officer,” he said.

"Police Legacy is now supporting the wife and family of the late Brett Forte.”

The family of the late Hugh Fulton, who served on the Southern Downs, donates some memorial trophies each year for the charity day in Warwick.

Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Loveday, of Warwick police, will be one of the police officers tipped to be among the prizes on Wednesday.

"Mick has been involved in all 21 golf days.

"Acting inspector Jamie Deacon will also be playing.”

After being a winner in recent years, Sergeant Tim Hoffman, of Inglewood, will start as one of the favourites.

Sgt Reid said the day would attract current and retired police officers from Brisbane, Toowoomba, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Inglewood and other areas.

"We have received a lot of support from local retailers who donate prizes, including electrical items.

"Eighteen businesses will sponsor holes on the day with the business promoted with banners on the tee they are sponsoring.

"There are rounds of golf and accommodation packages from golf resorts throughout southeast Queensland to be won.

"We regularly get 100 to 110 players. The golf day is a great chance for police to mix with the community.”

The Warwick Road Policing Unit is expected to field a team. Several general duties officers and detectives from the Warwick Police Station will be playing.

New Assistant Commissioner for the South West Region Mike Condon is expected in Warwick on Wednesday afternoon to meet the players

The charity day is always held on a Wednesday, the regular day for Warwick Sporters Golf Club competition.

President Keith Farrell said the police day was one of the biggest of the year at the club.

"I know retired police inspector Mick Lauder is coming from Brisbane,” Farrell said.

"Mick was a regular when he was stationed in Warwick and then at Oxley.

"The winner is likely to receive accommodation or a round of golf at a resort,” he said.

"A round of golf can cost up to $150 at some resort courses.”

The event is a single stableford with prizes for golfers and non-golfers.

Nominations with Warwick professional Sam Eaves at the pro shop on 46613664.

The event will be a shotgun start at 11.30am Wednesday. Groups of four will tee off at the same time. Any players keen to be placed in a team can turn up and will be allocated to a team.

Bookings can be made on the day but organisers need registrations by phone or in person by 11am on Wednesday at the Warwick Golf Club.
