MOTOR RACING : Wet weather won’t be the reason drivers can’t take to Morgan Park this weekend, for the Queensland Super Sprint Series round B1.

More than 122 drivers are expected to take to the popular track, hailing from the region and as far south a Tamworth according to facility manager Callum Espie.

“Like last weekend, we had slightly less numbers and then slightly less numbers because of the rain,” Espie said.

“This one is still going ahead, only if Warwick floods will we stop racing.

“The furthest competitors this weekend look to come from the likes of Tamworth and Kabra.”

Despite rain holding back the number of competitors, Espie is excited by the increased number of performance cars attending the Rose City track.

“There will be 23 Lotus’, nine Alfa Romeo’s, a Formula Atlantic and Formula 3, and then there’s the usual combination of cars young and old,” he said.

“We normally have about 15 Lotus’ max but they’ve been working hard to get more members.

“They’re fast cars and they look great on the track if people wanted to come out and have a look.”

While it may not be the high-octane racing spectators have become fans of, there are still set to be plenty of thrills on the track.

“If it’s racing, a lot of people will be going slower and driving to the conditions,” he said.

“Instead of speed, there will be a lot of people seeing how long they can stay on the track.

“It’ll be an opportunity for spectators who have potentially thought about buying one of these cars, to see how they perform on the track.”
