Cowboys v Wattles in derby clash

Wattles will host the game at Platz Oval in Clifton.

When the two teams met earlier in the season the Cowboys came out on top.

But coach Gary Lawrence said they would not be taking to the field with their full team.

"We have eight players out injured," Lawrence said.

"It is a great opportunity for the players in the reserve and under 18s teams who have been playing really well."

Lawrence said teamwork was the focus of this week's training session.

"The Wattles are a good side with good forwards," he said.

"They will be hard to beat at home."

Lawrence promised the Cowboys would put on a good show tonight regardless.

"The Cowboys are going to do the town proud," he said.

Wattles president Barry Glass said his boys were a good chance to win despite having two players out injured.

"We have good numbers and we are ready to rock and roll," he said.

"We have the home game advantage and the fellows are fired up.

"They are looking forward to it."

Glass said the Wattles had a big win at home against Oakey two rounds ago.

It was their first win of the season.

"The boys played really well," he said.

"They beat Oakey 48-40."

Neither of the teams are in the running for the finals round but Lawrence said the boys were not giving up.

"We want to make sure we win the next four rounds," he said.

"We will be up against the top four teams.

"It is going to be a hard run but it will be a great challenge."
