RUGBY LEAGUE: Warwick schoolboys Ryan Bohm and Eli Costello are in their second rugby league carnival for the school holidays.

The pair played for the Darling Downs' team in the Queensland under-12 schoolboys state championships at Carina Leagues Club last week.

Darling Downs came fifth in a field of 12.

This week they are part of the Warwick and Southern Downs team, which is unbeaten in the under-43kg zone 5 rugby league carnival at Clifton.

Ryan Bohm started in the second row for Darling Downs at Carina and won a players' player award in the team's final carnival game against Sunshine Coast.

"I really like to defend,” he said.

Ryan, who attends school at Scots PGC College, was always going to be a forward - his father Richard and uncles Jamie, Matt and Dennis all played in the Cowboys' pack on the one day in 2010.

Being a backrower, Ryan was always going to name a forward as his favourite NRL player, listing the Maroons' Josh McGuire.

Eli Costello, an Assumption College student, won the players' player award when he started at five-eighth in his team's win against Northern at Carina.

While he didn't score a try at the carnival, Eli said he was part of the lead-up work for six tries. Like his mate Ryan, Eli likes tackling.

The pair played for Darling Downs in under-11 footy last year in the Vic Jensen Shield at Runaway Bay.
